Happy Columbus Day

Today we studied Christopher Columbus. We drew the continents on a map and then drew Columbus' route to America. We made his three ships the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria out of egg cartons. We had a lot of fun with this project. The girls really liked the boats.

Glider project in Science

We did an experiment in science, where we made gliders. We have been studying birds wings and how the air lifts them. So with this glider experiment we had two different gliders, both made out of the same material but one had a short, fat wing and the other a long, narrow wing. We took them outside to see which one would fly the farthest. Our results were: The long, narrow wing flew further. Why? Mostly due to the way the air travels around the ends of a wing. The longer and narrower the wing, the less the drag, so it will go further. What a great experiment.

Our Nature Journals that we made last week. We took a nature walk today, to see what we could hear and see. We heard the wind blowing and water rushing down the whistle, and the water sloshing under our feet. We saw leaves blowing and three morning doves. Then we came back inside and we drew a picture in our journal. Here they are:

I'm still not real good at this but maybe I'll learn as I go. Hope you enjoy our study, we did. Have a great day.

American Indians

We are about to finish our study over American Indians. Here is our lapbook that we just finished. We also made Indian headbands, turtle shell rattles, teepees, and Indian fry bread. We still plan to make a beading design. Will post pictures of that when done. Hope you enjoy.
